Maddie was brought into Animal Health Care Specialists and presented with severe dehydration and difficulty breathing. Her owner was crying, saying that she knew she had to put Maddie to sleep. Maddie had been ill for a month and because her owner has little money she has, unfortunately, neglected Maddie’s care. She was told that before we made that decision we needed to find out exactly what was wrong with Maddie and, putting finances aside, if Maddie was able to be saved. After a thorough physical exam it was determined that Maddie had an infected uterus which necessitated immediate surgery and she also had aspiration pneumonia. Her chances for survival, even with hospitalization and surgery, would be about 50/50 but if she did recover there should be no ongoing consequences. The owner was able to put down $250 and the remainder of the bill will be paid through donations to Tails of Woe.
Tails of Woe is one of the few animal non-profits whose mission is to keep pets with their owners who do not have sufficient funds for costly veterinary bills. Tails of Woe prevents countless animals from being put to sleep or being relinquished to a shelter. The doctors and hospitals that we are affiliated with provide their services at tremendous discount while still providing the highest quality of care available. In this way donated dollars are stretched further than with other organizations. Your donations to Tails of Woe will help us continue to save pets lives and are very much appreciated!
